WINEYARDS
We import our wines from Istria, Southern Dalmatia, more specifically from the island of Vis and Peljeśac Peninsula, the famous regions of Dingać and Postup.
The Istria territory seems to be most developed as far as wine production and wine quality is concerned. Here, on almost six thousand hectares, we observe vineyards which almost interblend with the sea. In this region, the dominating soil is composed of lime, with a certain admixture of iron, which is responsible for the red colour of the soil - called crvenica in Croatian.
To the centre of the country, the soil is rich in humus, characteristic for chernozem. In the coastal areas, the climate is Mediterranean, while in the centre it changes into continental.
High temperatures and drought in the summer and rainfall in the winter are favourable for the high quality of the wines of the region. The history of this extraordinary beverage dates back to the ancient times. The best-known and most valued wines are white Malvasja, red Teran, White Muskat from Istria, red cabernet sauvignon, red Borgonia and red Hrvatica.
In southern Dalmatia there are many grapevines, mainly the local red ones. A lot of vineyards are situated on the islands or on Peljeśac Peninsula. The history of many grapevines has its roots in the period of Ancient Greece. The Hellens brought them here when they conquered islands of Vis, Hvar or Korćula. Some of grapevines, like, for instance Vugava Viska, come from this period.
The lime soil here has a certain admixture of dolomite, marl, iron and sand. In the area, local grapevines are grown, especially red wines, such as Plavac or white Pośip, Maraśtina, Malvazja from Dubrownik, Grek, Vugava, Bagdanuśa, Drnekuśa, Celinka.
The area of Peljeśac Peninsula, where Dingać, Postup and Uljana are cultivated, the area of Brać where Bol is cultivatated, and the area of Hvar, where they grow Ivan Dolac Sv. Nedelja, are of great importance. The curiosity are small vineyards where they grow grapevines, which still are not precisely described.
We, however, offer much better-known and characteristic grapevines. White Vugava from the Island of Vis has lush climber and regular fruiting season. Berries which gather in bunches have high sugar content and low acidity.
Plavac mali is a hybrid of Zinfandela and red Dobrićića. It is characterized by little amount of tannin, springy texture, freshness and quite a lot of alcohol.
